Dragan Gašević is one of the authors of a new article published in Computers in Human Behavior. The article is entitled “SENS: Network Analytics to Combine Social and Cognitive Perspectives of Collaborative Learning.”  The article proposes a network analytics approach for collaborative learning. The approach combines two established network analysis techniques: social network analysis (SNA) and epistemic network analysis (ENA). The approach is validated in a study that used a dataset from a massive open online course. The results of the study suggest that SNA and ENA produce complementary results which can i) explain collaboration processes that shaped the creation of social ties and that were associated with different network roles; ii) describe differences between low and high performing groups of learners; and iii) show how combined properties derived from SNA and ENA predict academic performance.
