A new paper on teachers’ work from LNM’s ARC-funded digital schools project has just been published in Learning, Media & Technology. The paper examines the nature of teachers’ work with digital technologies in school – pointing to the extension and intensification of teacher work through technologies such as email, smartphones, learning management systems and classroom Apps. A tension is explored between the increased standardisation of teachers’ work, while also the heightened affect that now circulates through technologies. The paper also considers how these conditions are experienced in different ways across the teaching workforce. The paper concludes by reflecting on how fairer and/or empowering working conditions might be achievable through alternate uses of digital technology.
