Matthew Fyfield, a PhD student in the Faculty of Education at Monash University, has published a new article in Learning Media & Technology, with DER’s Mike Phillips and Michael Henderson. The paper offers an original perspective on the processes teachers use to select YouTube videos for students, configuring an “entanglement” of human and algorithmic labour. While some teachers navigated through the search returns using well-developed content knowledge, others used rushed, or uncritical methods, increasing the influence of the algorithm in their practice.
